The Master of Public Health in Global Health (MPH-GH) program at Thammasat University is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address complex health challenges in a global context. The program emphasizes a comprehensive approach to public health, focusing on the social, economic, and political determinants of health.
Program Overview:
Philosophy: The MPH-GH program aims to transform traditional public health models to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile, marginalized, and globalized world. It addresses issues such as climate change, social inequity, and mass migration, emphasizing the importance of human rights and social justice in health policy development.
Objectives: The program seeks to develop core competencies in analyzing determinants of population health, understanding the political dimensions of health, and ensuring equitable access to health services. Functional competencies include conducting literature reviews, applying research methods, and designing, managing, and evaluating health programs.
Curriculum:
Study Tracks: Students can choose between two study tracks:
Thesis Track: Requires the completion of a thesis equivalent to 15 study credits, taking approximately 16 to 24 months to complete. This track prepares students for careers in research settings or advanced studies.
Independent Study Track: Involves a capstone project equivalent to 6 study credits, taking about 12 months to complete. This track is suitable for those aiming for professional roles where skills in assessment, planning, and evaluation are essential.
Special Activities: The program offers integrated field activities, exchange programs, and global health practicums to provide real-world exposure and enhance learning. Collaborations with institutions like Maastricht University in the Netherlands and McMaster University in Canada offer online interactive exchange courses. Additionally, an elective Global Health Practicum at Manipal University in India is available.

Thammasat University (TU) is the second oldest university in Thailand, teaching more than 33,000 students and employing more than 2,700 academic staff. Inaugurated in 1934 with social science and humanities to serve society’s thirst for modern knowledge, it is known as “the university for the people” and has since expanded its remit to include science, technology, and health.
Thammasat places an emphasis on sustainability by teaching the humanities, social sciences and STEM subjects in an environment that aims to create a “smart university”. This goal is being reached by introducing energy saving and renewable measures on campus, and by creating and implementing new technology that is environmentally friendly.
As Thailand shifts its political agendas towards meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Thammasat University has become central to coordinating research and policy while helping to prioritise the country’s social mobility.
Thammasat is the first university in Thailand who has received an award on “Cultural Change for Sustainability” for its campaign to reduce single-use plastics from the International Sustainability Campus Network (ISCN) during the 2020 ISCN Awards Ceremony on 14th May, 2020. Thammasat is leading by example in setting its own targets to become a fully sustainable “smart university”.
Thammasat University, by Faculty of Economics, is also a co-host of Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Thailand (SDSN Thailand) from March 2020 until February 2022.
