The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Department was founded in 1995 when a need for an English-speaking graduate program in the north of Thailand was realized. Today, the program attracts both local and international students who wish to enrich their professional skills. A high standard of spoken and written English is expected from students. The program’s small size affords students the opportunity to receive a high level of attention and support within a genial learning environment.

The International College of Payap University provides a wide range of educational levels–from a certificate program to undergrad and graduate programs. With our mission to provide leading international studies to produce global citizens with moral and academic excellence, we expand the boundaries of learning through interdisciplinary teaching and learning and career-integrated curricula.


The International College started its Bachelor’s Degree program in 2003 and as such has had over a decade of experience teaching an international curriculum. Our lecturers perfectly comply with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation’s requirements and have international experience from various countries, including Australia, Britain, Canada, Germany, Korea, Ireland, Japan, Thailand, and the USA. Current students come from all across the globe representing 25 countries, including Australia, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, China, Philippines, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Swiss, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, UK, and USA.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Curriculum Structure for Doctor of Philosophy Program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), consisting of 2 study plans as follows:


Plan 2.1: For students who have completed a master’s degree


Dissertation: 36 credits

Coursework: 12 credits

Core Courses: not less than 9 credits

Elective Courses: not less than 3 credits

Plan 2.2: For students who have completed a bachelor’s degree


Dissertation: 48 credits

Coursework: 24 credits

Core Courses: not less than 15 credits

Elective Courses: not less than 9 credits

Note: For students in both study plans, advisors may assign additional coursework with course codes 600-700 in the master’s program of the department if necessary, in the form of non-credit coursework.
