FAQs

Question :

How can I get an accredited diploma while studying at Harbour.Space?

Answer :

Harbour.space is an acknowledged educational institution in Spain with an authorised Spanish license of 08078491. Students enrolled in specific programmes at Harbour.Space University have the opportunity to receive a double diploma with an accredited degree from the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) in Spain and/or the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) in Bangkok, Thailand. Harbour.Space University has established long-term partnerships with these reputable and dynamic universities in Europe and Asia. While we have successfully achieved these accreditation milestones through our partnerships, we continue to align all our courses with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), ensuring recognition by our partner institutions. Our programmes are designed to be highly practical, focusing on real-world applications. In today's digital economy, employers prioritise portfolios and real-world problem-solving experiences over traditional diplomas. Therefore, we emphasise teaching students to build businesses and gain hands-on experience. This approach ensures that our graduates not only earn a diploma but also acquire the practical experience of running a business and access to a global network of leading professionals and innovators. Should you have any concerns or specific requirements for recognition, we are prepared to liaise directly with the relevant institutions to establish one-to-one agreements tailored to your needs. This personalised approach is a standard practice at Harbour.Space University.

Question :

Answer :

Question :

How are the courses taught and what’s the daily schedule like?

Answer :

All courses are taught “face-to-face” on our Barcelona and Bangkok campuses. Harbour.Space programmes are designed for full-time, year-round intensive study, divided into a three-week module format, one subject at a time. For each module, classes are scheduled for three hours a day, five days a week, for a total of 45 contact hours, including examinations, which means that studying requires active participation and maximum concentration. This format is designed to foster deep and dynamic interaction among students and professors. Lectures are held every day either in the morning or in the afternoon, and students spend the rest of their time on takeaway work and projects. Students can expect a precisely integrated mix of lectures, presentations, group discussions, case studies, team projects, and a personal capstone project. They also gain an opportunity to work with our partner companies on real-world problems.

Question :

When do programmes start and how long do they take? When are the breaks?

Answer :

The programmes’ starting date is August for Bangkok, and September for Barcelona. However, one can join almost every three weeks. The whole programme can be completed in three years for the Bachelor’s and in one to two years for the Master’s degrees, depending on the programme. There are several one-week vacation periods per year and a long winter and summer break. There are also breaks designed to allow students to take on internships.

Answer :

Barcelona is great for sports. Any water sports, city sports, great football, tennis, and any type of athletic activity is just a click away. Harbour.Space is teamed up with the International Student Network and welcomes all students to join University football and/or volleyball teams or other sports, including horse polo, water sports/activities, etc.

Does Harbour.Space provide a Spanish Language Course?

Answer :

Yes. At Harbour.Space you will have the opportunity to study Spanish (no prior knowledge required). We organise an intensive Spanish Language Course for Foreigners (optional), for which you may sign up during the Orientation Week.

Question :

Does the University provide student visas?

Answer :

All applicants are responsible for their visas. As soon as your application has been accepted, Harbour.Space issues an official personalised admission letter necessary for visa purposes. In our experience, student visas usually take more than six weeks to process. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible – as early as four months in advance – to allow enough processing time. In addition, we recommend that you apply early since enrolment documents are required to start the student visa procedures.

Question :

Do I need a social security number/medical insurance? Do I need one?

Answer :

If you are a non-EU student or don’t have a European social security number (Health Insurance Coverage), you must get one. The so-called “Seguridad Social” entitles you to get public healthcare in Spain and the EU. You can get this number with your NIE/TIE at the Administración de la Seguridad Social closer to your address. The following documents are needed: Your Spanish Student Residence Card (‘Tarjeta de Autorización de Estancia por Estudios') (original and photocopy) Your passport or ID (original and photocopy) We will also recommend a national health insurance company, as our students get special discounts.

Question :

Who can apply for the programmes?

Answer :

To apply to Harbour.Space for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, you need the following: General Requirements: CV Diploma and Transcript of the highest education level Optional: Recommendation letters, Capstone Project Proposal (for some programmes) Specific Requirements: Technical Programmes: Maths and Computer Science Test Master’s: Front-end Challenge (for Front-end Development) Front-end Development: Bachelor’s: Maths and Computer Science Test Master’s: Front-end Challenge High-tech Entrepreneurship & Digital Marketing: Capstone Project Proposal Interaction Design: Portfolio and Design Challenge Harbour.Space values top academic performance and relevant experience or competition achievements. International students may need a visa, and credit transfer options are available.

Question :

I am currently attending another institution. Will my credits transfer to Harbour.Space?

Answer :

Harbour.Space adheres to the Bologna Process, which facilitates the mobility of students within Europe. Under the Bologna Process and a point system known as the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), students are able to transfer and study at European Universities without the need to interrupt their undergraduate or graduate studies. However, we also have extensive experience in validating transcripts and processing applications from transfer students who come from non-European universities or universities that do not follow the ECTS. To receive credits for or exemptions from courses taken at another academic institution, students must submit a detailed syllabus in English for each course for which they are requesting credit or an exemption. In choosing your study programme, you should rely on your previous university studies’ character as this helps increase the likelihood that more courses will transfer. You will be able to transfer up to 40% of the total credits required to graduate from Harbour.Space at the discretion of the faculty. However, due to the highly demanding nature of the Harbour.Space curriculum, each year builds upon the previous year, you will still need to satisfy all of Harbour.Space’s course requirements. The faculty will determine how to map transfer credits into the curriculum.

Question :

When should I apply?

Answer :

The admission process for the next academic year has already started. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, which means that there is no application deadline. We will continue to accept applications only until full enrolment has been reached. Therefore, we recommend applying as soon as possible in order to ensure that there is a place available within the programme (and to have time to process your visa application, if required).

Question :

What admissions criteria does Harbour.Space use to select its students?

Answer :

Our admission process is a holistic review of each student’s preparedness level for higher studies and potential for a successful career. While we are highly selective, we do not base our decision on reviewing the grades and transcripts alone. We believe that grades and standardised test results are sometimes not entirely indicative of a student’s ability to work on a project and innovate. We consider certificates, transcripts, motivation, and recommendation letters as well as awards, achievements, and extracurricular activities. One of the crucial parts of a student's application is the capstone project proposal (or portfolio for identification) and their ability to demonstrate an eagerness to study a particular field. All our technical degree programmes (Computer Science, Data Science, Front-end Development, and Cyber Security) require a solid foundational knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and programming. If your maths level is not sufficient, you may first join our intensive, one-year preparatory Maths as a Second Language (MSL) course before starting the maths-intensive degree studies. Upon successful completion of MSL, students are automatically granted admission into any maths-intensive degree course at Harbour.Space. Applicants who wish to acquire skills in maths to pursue studies at other technical universities at undergraduate or graduate levels are also invited to apply to MSL.

Question :

What is a Capstone Project proposal?

Answer :

We ask that all applicants propose an idea for a project as part of the application process. You may already have an idea for your project or reach out to friends, family, teachers, and counselors to help you find an idea that you genuinely feel passionate about. In the application, explain if this is a unique idea, why you care about it, and why you believe studying at Harbour.Space will give you the tools to implement it. We ask that you avoid choosing a project that you already know how to complete. Don't be reluctant to be ambitious. You will have years of training from the best professors and mentors, in addition to working together with your peers to make it possible. Perhaps you'll be the first person to find a way of implementing such an ambitious idea? If necessary, students are allowed to change the topic during the programme although this is not encouraged. The project proposal should be submitted in the form of a document with one to two pages of text. It should clearly state the project idea, its significance, the reasons for your interest in it, and why studying at Harbour.Space will help you implement it.

Question :

What level of English proficiency is needed?

Answer :

As all of our courses are taught in English, we require that our students speak and comprehend English well. While we take work experience and standardised test scores into consideration, we do not have a specific set of requirements. Your abilities to convey your thoughts in English and whether they will be good enough to engage during the courses will be mainly evaluated during the interview.

Question :

What is a personal interview?

Answer :

All applicants are required to attend a personal interview which can be organised “face-to-face” or as a Google video conference at your convenience. You will receive all details about the interview once your application is submitted.

Question :

Do I need to provide transcripts? What if I haven’t yet received my university title and/or final grades at the time of my application?

Answer :

Applicants must submit official copies of their high school transcript and diploma. Applicants in their final year of the previous programme may submit a partial or unofficial transcript detailing their current achievements. Acceptance of such applicants is contingent upon receiving an official diploma and transcripts before the beginning of studies.

Question :

Is there a minimum or maximum age for acceptance?

Answer :

No. We accept students of all ages. However, if you are under 18, a parent or a guardian must sign your application and the consent form to study at Harbour.Space.

Question :

Will my financial status impact my chances of being admitted?

Answer :

No, your financial status will not impact your chances of being admitted to Harbour.Space. We have a need-blind admissions policy, and we will notify if they are accepted before we inquire about their financial ability.

Question :

Is there an application fee?

Answer :

Yes. There is a fixed non-refundable application fee of 125€ for all programmes that has to be paid by all applicants. The application might only be considered after the payment. The fee guarantees we can process every single application fairly and maintain the highest possible standard of assessment.

Question :

You’ve confirmed your eligibility and submitted your application. Now what?

Answer :

Congratulations! However, you still have a few more items to check off your list: The Admissions Office will review your application and contact you if more information is needed or if additional documentation is required. Until the process is finalised, please check the email you entered in your application form regularly. Await the decision: Two weeks after your application has been received, the Admissions Office will contact you to communicate the outcome of your application for admission. If you don’t receive a notice, please contact Harbour.Space at [email protected] If your application is successful, you will receive the acceptance documents. To confirm your study place, you must pay the total tuition fee according to the schedule in your acceptance letter. If you are a non-European student, you would need to apply for a student visa with the Spanish Embassy or Consulate closest to you. EU citizens and citizens of the European Economic Area do not require a visa to enter Spain. All you need is a national identity card or passport. Enroll: If you present to the Admissions Office all the original documents before the beginning of your studies, you may enroll in the degree course at the end of August.

Question :

Do I get a job placement upon graduation?

Answer :

The majority of our students receive multiple job offers at the end of the second academic year of their Bachelor's programme and the end of the first academic year of their Master's programme. The best applicants receive an offer from our industrial partners.

Question :

Will I have to do an internship?

Answer :

We are eager to work with students looking to become entrepreneurs and start their businesses. Support and guidance from our mentors with specialised knowledge in technology, entrepreneurship, company building, and venture capital. Ability to enter one of the world's best accelerators and compete for funding for your startup business. Possibility of presenting your company at local and international startup events as well as pitching in front of our partner VC funds. Students will get an early start on building a startup by trying out their ideas as part of their capstone project implementation. Students and their mentors work on the project for the duration of the programme and have an opportunity to study the project idea from multiple perspectives and try out different approaches. Students can also use this time to learn about market demand, the challenges of building a functioning team and familiarize themselves with all steps necessary to start a company. At the end of the programme students present their projects during Demo Day. The presentation will be held in front of peers, professors, as well as industry and venture capital representatives. It is an excellent opportunity to make a big splash and attract the world’s attention to your startup. We are excited to give students an opportunity to make their last day at Harbour.Space the first birthday of their startup.

Harbour.Space will assist students in finding the most optimal mentor for the Capstone Project but is not responsible for the outcome. Please note that mentors are not assigned but are instead courted. As a rule, it will take a while to convince the best mentors to become advisors on your project. Every member of our teaching faculty can become a mentor based on their past experiences, so be conscious about this while taking courses, and impress visiting faculty with your work ethics, passion and commitment.

Question :

Are scholarships offered? Do I need to apply separately?

Answer :

Harbour.Space is committed to ensuring that the best students can attend the university, independently of their financial circumstances. We are supporting extraordinary students who would not be here without the assistance provided by their endowed scholarships. The Admissions Officer will inform you about whether you are entitled to financial aid and its terms in the admission decision. Many Harbour.Space scholarship funds originate as targeted aid from individuals and corporations based on the information provided in your Admission Profile. Apprenticeship Programme Harbour.Space offers multiple apprenticeship opportunities in collaboration with our industry partners. The offers include 12- to 36-month scholarships for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and include work experience at our industry partners, with employment opportunities available upon graduation. Students can learn more about their eligibility by direct inquiry.

Question :

Will student loans be available?

Answer :

Harbour.Space can assist you in obtaining a student loan by providing a proof of study and other necessary documentation, but students are responsible for arranging the loans. If you are considering a student loan, we strongly encourage you to thoroughly research individual loan programmes to learn about interest rates, fees, repayment terms, and other factors you should consider.

Question :

Is there a refund policy?

Answer :

To book a place in a course, students must pay either (1) The full tuition fee; or (2) A deposit (unless indicated otherwise on the application form, in which case the terms of the application form shall prevail). All deposits received are for the sole purpose of reserving a place in the course and are NON-REFUNDABLE except (1) In cases of VISA Refusal; AND (2) Subject to the student complying with the School’s VISA REFUSAL REFUND POLICY. This means that if a student changes their mind after enrolling in a course, the deposit payment CANNOT be refunded.
