ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

1. General Objectives

1) To have a deep knowledge and understanding of both the theory and practice necessary for the administration of public affairs and the formulation of quality public policy. Corresponds to national and international needs and issues, using the concepts of public administration as the base, and using the concepts arising from the integration of both social science and science as a multidisciplinary tool.

2) To have research and creativity ability. To gain new and innovative knowledge in public affairs administration and public policy as a frontier of research obtained by integrating theoretical and practical knowledge from different disciplines and ready to be conveyed or can be published to the public, both at the national and international levels.

3) To have leadership to create and manage socially acceptable change in a complex and highly dynamic environment, including having morality, ethics, and socially responsibility consciousness, both as a citizen and a representative in a democratic society.

2. Behavioral Objectives

The DPA program’s learning outcomes (PLOs) are defined by the world-class standard of Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) as follows:

1) PLO1: Competency in theory, research, and application of advanced knowledge in public affairs management in the digital age.

2) PLO2: Competency in the advanced analysis and presentation for decision making, problem solving, and public service.

3) PLO3: Competency in morality and ethics for public affairs management reflecting a strong leadership of public organizations.

4) PLO4: Competency in management and application of digital innovation within and outside the organization.

5) PLO5: Competency in verbal skills, writing skills, and digital media in a diverse world.

Khon Kaen University (KKU) was established as the major university in the northeastern part of Thailand in 1964 and has since devoted itself to becoming one of the top universities in Thailand. The university’s major mission is to prepare future global citizens to work in a continually changing world. KKU’s strategic goal is to be recognized both internationally and regionally as a leading university in research. KKU currently has more than 40,000 students studying in 19 faculties, 3 colleges 1 school, and 2 campuses.

Khon Kaen University has continually developed as of the date of foundation until today. The success of development and administration can be divided into 3 periods as follows:

First Period: Foundation and expansion of the university

Second Period: Development and building of bodies of knowledge

Third Period: The age of research university and leading research university

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Supplementary course: 3 credits (non-credit) for both Type 1.1 and Type 2.1

Required courses: 6 credits for Type 1.1; 18 credits for Type 2.1

Elective courses: Optional for both Type 1.1 and Type 2.1

Dissertation: 48 credits for Type 1.1; 36 credits for Type 2.1

Total credits: 54 for both Type 1.1 and Type 2.1

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Student Qualifications

Earn a Master’s Degree or its equivalent.

Additional qualifications:

1) Must have one of the following English proficiency test result:

a. TOEFL;

i. Paper-based at least 400

ii. Computer-based at least 97

iii. Internet-based at least 32

iv. Institutional Testing Program at least 400

b. IELTS (Academic Module) at least 4.0;

c. TU-GET at least 400;

d. CU-TEP at least 45; or

e. KKU-AELT at least level 2 in reading and writing.

2) Must have research skills or experience. The applicant must have at least one published paper in academic journals at the national or higher level.

3) If the applicant does not meet qualifications (1) and (2), they must be approved by the Curriculum Administration Committee.

Possible Career Pathway

Graduates can pursue careers in higher education institutions, government organizations, research organizations or other organizations involved in the provision of public affairs services. They will be qualified to act as teachers, academicians, researchers, or corporate executives with an expertise in public policy at the local, national, and international levels.

I am KKU student and get Non-ED Visa for a year, do I have to make the notification of staying in Thailand over 90 days?

Answer :

Students who have been granted a Non Immigration Visa for a temporary stay in Thailand and intend to stay longer than 90 days must report every 90 days at Khon Kaen immigration in person.

Question :

I left Thailand for a week to visit my family and return on 28th April 2019, my friend said I have to report the immigration in person within 48 hrs, right?

Answer :

Yes, students have to report within 48 hrs. after returning to Thailand at the immigration in person to maintain their notification of residence.

Question :

If I miss the report after returning to Thailand within 48 hrs., what will happen to me?

Answer :

The record information of your residence will be shown as the address you made the first 90-day report at the immigration. For example, you graduated from University A in Bangkok and moved to Khon Kaen for studying doctoral Degree. The first notification of a 90-day report made in Bangkok so the recorded residence information is in Bangkok. You visited hometown and missed the 48-hr. report after returning to Thailand. When you make the 90-day report at KK immigration, the information of your residence is in Bangkok. Therefore, you have to pay for the fine. In case your first notification of a 90-day report made in Khon Kaen, there is no problem.

Question :

If I travel to another province in Thailand, do I have to report at the immigration?

Answer :

No, the landlord or house owner (hotel or house you are staying with during your traveling) will report immigration.

Question :

What are the tuition fees and living expenses?

Answer :

Tuition fees vary depending on the program and level of study. For instance, international undergraduate programs at KKU International College have specific tuition rates. KKU INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE The estimated monthly cost of living ranges from 8,000 to 15,000 THB (approximately 266 to 500 USD).
