ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University established the Department of Biochemistry in 1992 to teach general biochemistry to medical and paramedical students. The Department has continuously advanced its teaching objectives and research goals. The Master’s and PhD programs in Medical Biochemistry began in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In 2009, the programs have been renamed, “Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology”. At least 50 graduates have accomplished from this program. Our program is appropriately in line with current knowledge at all times.


PhD graduates:

Ability to analyze, criticize the work; planning and construction of research in biochemistry and molecular biology and related fields independently; can achieve high academic quality, initiate the new knowledge and technical progress that can be distributed internationally, the moral and social consciousness


PhD graduates:

The Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Curriculum (updated 2017), an international PhD program, have the following program learning outcomes (PLOs):

1. Students will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of key theories and practices in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (MBMB) and related fields according to the professional standard.

2. Students will be able to use research processes, mathematical and statistical methods, to solve research problems and derive novel knowledge and deliver the work for the development of their research field.

3. Students will be able to effectively communicate, convey, and publish scientific data and academic ideas in English at the international level.

4. Students will be proficient in using computational tools, information technology, and other online resources for self-studying and creating academic output.

5. Students will demonstrate work ethics, discipline, and responsibility toward self, society, and country. 6. Students will demonstrate capability in leadership and understanding of diverse global cultures and be able to work effectively in an international team.


Opportunities for overseas training

PhD students who study in this field have opportunities to do research training abroad in the short term (1-3 months) and long term (one year), in collaboration with foreign researchers, the RGJ-Ph.D. Program (Thailand Research Fund), and funding from Khon Kaen University For Graduate students. M.Sc. students can apply for the scholarship exchange to do research overseas for 3-4 months.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Program 1

Type 1.1 focuses on research only and additional course work without credit. Applicants must hold a Master degree in Medical Physiology or relevant subject. This program requires at least 48 thesis credits.


Program 2 focuses on research with additional course work.

Type 2.1 requires a 36-credit thesis and 12 credits of course work. Applicants holding a Master Degree are eligible to enroll.

Type 2.2 requires a 48-credit thesis and 24 credits of course work to qualify. Applicants holding a Bachelor Degree are eligible to enroll.

Doctor of Philosophy Program Admission Requirements

  • Program 1.1:
  • Applicants must hold a Master of Science degree or be in the final semester of a Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (or a relevant subject) with a GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • Program 2.1:
  • Applicants must hold a Master of Science degree or be in the final semester of a Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (or a relevant subject) with a GPA of 3.25 or above.
  • Program 2.2:
  • Applicants must hold (or be in the final semester of) a Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a GPA of 3.25 or be in the top 20% of the class.
  • Transfer from Master’s to PhD:
  • Applicants enrolled in the Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program, with at least 15 credits and a GPA of 3.5 or above, are eligible to transfer to the Doctor of Philosophy Program.

I am KKU student and get Non-ED Visa for a year, do I have to make the notification of staying in Thailand over 90 days?

Answer :

Students who have been granted a Non Immigration Visa for a temporary stay in Thailand and intend to stay longer than 90 days must report every 90 days at Khon Kaen immigration in person.

Question :

I left Thailand for a week to visit my family and return on 28th April 2019, my friend said I have to report the immigration in person within 48 hrs, right?

Answer :

Yes, students have to report within 48 hrs. after returning to Thailand at the immigration in person to maintain their notification of residence.

Question :

If I miss the report after returning to Thailand within 48 hrs., what will happen to me?

Answer :

The record information of your residence will be shown as the address you made the first 90-day report at the immigration. For example, you graduated from University A in Bangkok and moved to Khon Kaen for studying doctoral Degree. The first notification of a 90-day report made in Bangkok so the recorded residence information is in Bangkok. You visited hometown and missed the 48-hr. report after returning to Thailand. When you make the 90-day report at KK immigration, the information of your residence is in Bangkok. Therefore, you have to pay for the fine. In case your first notification of a 90-day report made in Khon Kaen, there is no problem.

If I travel to another province in Thailand, do I have to report at the immigration?

Answer :

No, the landlord or house owner (hotel or house you are staying with during your traveling) will report immigration.
