This APU Diploma in Hotel Management is designed to provide

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Semester 1

The first semester will help students to gain an understanding of basic concepts, terminology related to hotel management, develop language and digital skills while studying Computer Applications, Business English Communication, Digital Thinking and Innovation, Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Industry, and Hygiene Essentials.

Semester 2

The second semester builds on and extends the operational skills developed in the first semester. Hotel management skills are taken to a more advanced level of professionalism. The students will gain familiarity with International Cuisine, Food and Beverage Operations, Customer Service, Pastry and Bakery Skills and Culture and Heritage.

During the third semester, students will gain familiarity with Front Office Operations and Basic Quantitative Skills

In the fourth semester, students will gain comprehensive knowledge in the areas of hotel operations and management. The students will gain familiarity with housekeeping operations, funding, and Business Events Management.

Semester 5

In the fifth semester, students will be exposed to diverse areas such as Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Accounting, Digital Marketing for Hospitality and Events Business, Public Relations for Hospitality and Events, and Human Resource Management for Hospitality and Events. Most importantly, students will gain the ability to think independently and execute hotel operations and management.

Semester 6 - Internship (20 weeks)

Students will undertake an Internship/Industrial Training for a minimum period of 20 weeks to prepare them for a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment.


** In addition to the above, all students are also required to successfully complete General Studies modules as stipulated by the Malaysian Qualification Agency, as well as fulfill credit requirements for Co-curricular activities.


Further Studies

Upon successful completion of this programme and fulfilment of requirements for credit transfer, you will be eligible to progress into Level 2 of the following degree programmes offered at APU.

 

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Hospitality and Tourism with a specialism in Hospitality Innovation

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Hospitality and Tourism with a specialism in Events Management

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Hospitality and Tourism with a specialism in Aviation Management

Admission Requirements

General Requirements

  • SPM3 Credits in at least 3 subjects at SPM level, with a minimum of a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and Sejarah (History);
  • IGCSE/O-LEVELS3 Credits (Grade C & above) in at least 3 subjects at IGCSE/O-Levels;
  • UEC3 Credits (Grade B & above) in at least 3 subjects in UEC;
  • CertificatePass relevant Certificate Programme or its equivalent;

 

A qualification that APU accepts as equivalent to the above. 


Note: The above entry requirements may differ for specific programmes based on the latest programme standards published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The qualification and entry requirements for the programmes will be determined based on the "Comparison List of Equivalency of International Qualifications with SPM (O-Levels equivalent) and STPM (A-Levels equivalent)" published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
