The university was established in 1959 through collaboration between the Royal Thai Government and the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1964, the institution became North Bangkok Technical College. Later, in 1971, it joined with other technical institutes to form King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology (KMIT), which included campuses in North Bangkok, Thonburi, and Ladkrabang. In 1986, the system separated into three autonomous universities, resulting in the establishment of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok. In 2007, the institution officially became King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok and gained autonomous university status.
Today, KMUTNB has developed into a comprehensive technology-focused university offering programs from vocational and undergraduate levels to doctoral degrees. Academic disciplines include engineering, industrial technology, information technology, architecture and design, applied sciences, technical education, business administration, and agro-industry. The university is especially known for mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, and industrial engineering programs.
KMUTNB operates three main campuses across Thailand. The Bangkok campus serves as the primary academic and administrative center. The Prachinburi campus was established to expand educational opportunities and research into regional and industrial sectors, while the Rayong campus supports education and collaboration connected to Thailand’s Eastern industrial zones and manufacturing industries.
