King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi is one of Thailand’s top public research universities, widely recognized for excellence in engineering, technology, science, and innovation. The university traces its origins to the Thonburi Technical Institute, established on February 4, 1960 under Thailand’s Department of Vocational Education. In 1971, under the Technology Act, Thonburi Technical Institute joined with North Bangkok Technical Institute and Nonthaburi Telecommunication Institute to form King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology (KMIT), a degree-granting institution with three campuses. The Thonburi campus later became King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Thonburi (KMITT) in 1986 after the campuses gained autonomous university status. In 1998, the institution officially became King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), becoming Thailand’s first fully autonomous public university with independent administration and budgeting systems.
KMUTT has developed into a comprehensive technology-focused university offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across a wide range of disciplines.
