Chiang Mai University

Chiang Mai University (CMU) was founded in 1964 as Thailand’s first provincial university, established under Royal Charter with support from King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It was created to expand higher education outside Bangkok and serve Northern Thailand as a center for learning, research, and development. The university began with three main faculties: Science, Social Sciences, and Humanities. It has since expanded into a comprehensive institution with many faculties covering fields such as engineering, medicine, business, education, and arts. Today, CMU offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including international programs taught in English. CMU is located in Chiang Mai Province near Doi Suthep, with a large green campus environment. It is known for strong academic programs, research output, and regional impact in Northern Thailand. The university also plays a key role in community development, sustainability, and innovation, supporting both local and national growth.
