Established in 1984, City University Malaysia was founded by a group of scholars with extensive global academic experience and a passion to empower the next generation. Originally known as Petaling Jaya Community College, the University has made significant advances over the years towards fulfilling its Vision of being a globally renowned industry-focused institution. As one of Malaysia’s earlier private higher education institutions, the University attained full university status in 2016 and now has more than 9,200 students with over 38,000 alumni. City Education Group, a subsidiary of U.C.I. Education Sdn.Bhd. is comprised of two institutions of higher learning - City University Malaysia and City Academy. The University also has five Centres of Excellence with a dedicated Centre for Foundation Studies, Centre of Language Studies, City Graduate School, Research Management Centre, and Centre for Continuing Education & Professional Studies. From its humble beginnings, the University now has, in addition to its main campus in Petaling Jaya (Greater Kuala Lumpur), a branch campus in Johor Bahru, together with regional centres in Kota Kinabalu and Penang. In 2024, City University Malaysia expanded its footprint with a new campus in Cyberjaya, a global technology hub. Rated in the most recent Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education SETARA-2023 rating as the Competitive University, City University Malaysia has an outstanding record for academic quality. Aligned with its industry focus, the University was ranked No.6 out of 100 Top private universities in ASEAN region, No.5 for community engagement and Top 10 for employability in latest AppliedHE 2025 ranking. Our staff have an outstanding academic profile, with each faculty holding a doctorate within a relevant field, ensuring students are exposed to the latest knowledge within their studies. The University has extensive global reach with international students comprising 47% of the student population, drawn from over 70 nations. As part of our commitment to producing global citizens, students are presented with a range of study abroad opportunities through global university partnerships that span across the globe.
