King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) is one of Thailand’s most important science and technology universities, widely known for engineering education, applied sciences, and industrial innovation. The institution was founded in 1960 as the Nonthaburi Telecommunications Training Center through cooperation between the Thai government and Japan. Its original purpose was to develop skilled technical personnel in telecommunications and engineering to support national infrastructure development. Over time, it evolved into a higher education institution and became part of Thailand’s King Mongkut Institute of Technology system.
In 1971, it merged with other technical colleges to form King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, which had campuses in North Bangkok, Thonburi, and Ladkrabang. The Ladkrabang campus gradually expanded and developed its own academic structure, focusing heavily on engineering, science, and technology disciplines. In 1986, KMITL became an independent institute under the King Mongkut system, and in 2008 it gained full autonomous university status.
KMITL has grown into a comprehensive technology-focused university offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. Academic areas include electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, robotics, telecommunications, biomedical engineering, architecture, industrial design, information technology, food industry, and business administration. The university operates multiple campuses, with the main campus located in Lat Krabang, Bangkok, near Suvarnabhumi Airport. It also has the Prince of Chumphon Campus and other specialized research and training centers.
